Sikhs came to foreign lands in search of opportunities, and succeeded despite all odds. Jobs were difficult to come by, and neighbors regarded them with suspicion. Some gave up their outward articles of faith; others upheld their traditions striving to overcome the prejudices of an alien people. All of them had to battle heavy odds in the beginning but always kept themselves in high spirits as taught by their Gurus. Often they were homesick, they missed their families back home and wept each time a call or a letter apprised them of some news of sorrow or happiness at their home. Neither the lack of economic resources nor the feeling of isolation could dwarf their will to succeed. The profiles in this book are of people who carved success for themselves out of alien surroundings. These profiles may seem of fictional people, but they are indeed real people.
