Even the conquering British had to tread cautiously around this one-eyed, all –seeing lion hearted king of Punjab. Strong and outstandingly brave, Ranjit Singh defied death at every turn. Only ten years old when he first led a victorious army, he went on to become Maharaja, in 1801, of all Punjab and then lands beyond.

Amar Chitra Katha, an Indian comic publishing Company is well known for helping children learn about Indian history and culture through popular folktales and illustrations. Often adults born and/or raised in India have testified the use and help they received from Amar Chitra Katha during their elementary years, in building their interest in learning about the their heritage.

Five  titles on Sikh subjects have been chosen by us from the Amar Chitra Katha religion series to help the Sikh children born and raised outside India, learn about their rich Sikh heritage in the most interesting manner. While we at the Sikh Foundation realize that these books might not be the most ideal in terms of vocabulary and presentation for the Sikh children growing up outside India, however they do somewhat help fill the desperate need of elementary and middle level educational materials on Sikhism.

It is our hope that from these books, some skilled parents get ideas and come forward to design and author enhanced editions of these books that are more suitable for the children growing up outside India. This one on Guru Teg Bahadur (the ninth Guru or teacher of the Sikhs) briefly yet illustriously tells us the incidents surrounding the times when he became the Guru and about the most supreme sacrifice in the history of mankind that the Guru happily made to save the Hindus and their religious freedom
